St Neots Hockey Clubs Men's 1s have extended their winning to three games in an 8-1 thrashing v Spalding 2s but the women's 1s endured a difficult 2-0 defeat to Cambridge South 1s.
The men's 1s were in imperious form against Spalding 2s, and from the start, they dominated proceedings and took the lead within five minutes from Bradley Forsdick's short corner.
Rory Jones doubled the lead when he finished another short corner routine, and Saints continued the pressure and went three up through Sam Evans.
Just before halftime, though, Saints let Spalding back into the game, conceding one and then conceding a big chance, impressively stopped by keeper Ben Seaber.
Saints quickly brushed off that late wobble in the second half when Captain Michael Hornby restored the three-goal lead.
Right back, Tom Alderman, finished a great solo run with a goal before Forsdick doubled his tally.
Saints didn’t take their foot off the gas and top scorer Phil McMorris added two late goals to earn the team’s biggest win of the season.
Back in St Neots, the women's 1s were playing on home soil for the first time in five weeks but could not break down a stubborn Cambridge South 1s.
Saints made a positive start to the game and put South under pressure throughout the first half.
Although they had some good opportunities in front of goal, they couldn’t convert them and went in 0-0 at halftime.
Saints started the second half positively again, but South worked their way back into the game, and after a number of short corners and sustained pressure, they finally scored.
A second goal for South soon after secured the three points.
A difficult result for the 1s, but they will now have to pick themselves up for next week’s game against the league leaders.
There was joy for the women's 2s, however, after they hammered Bourne Deeping 2s in an unbelievable 16-0 win with Marie Quintilla and Kira Herbert grabbing four goals each.
The men's 2s also celebrated victory with a 3-0 win over Kettering 4s, which broke a three-game losing streak.
Elsewhere the men's 3s and women's 3s drew their fixtures, whilst the men's and women's 4s lost both of their matches away from home.
