Ex-St Neots Town goalkeeper Michael Duggan was in fine form as he denied his former side from collecting a valuable point in their battle for step four survival.
Duggan ensured his current team Spalding United picked up a 1-0 Northern Premier League Division One Midlands win over St Neots, who were up against a stubborn defence on February 18.
The visitors found their rhythm after a couple of Spalding efforts, debutant Liam Smyth seeing his goal-bound effort blocked by a defender before his header was saved by Duggan.
But it was the promotion-chasing Tulips who took the lead on 54 minutes through Nat Ansu, who headed home Lewis Hilliard’s cross from 10 yards.
St Neots ‘keeper James Goff was then forced into an impressive stop to deny Ansu later in the second half.
Pete Gill’s side found it harder to break down a defensive Spalding, who troubled Goff in added time.
St Neots, who sit two points above the automatic relegation spots, host 16th-placed Gresley Rovers at the Premier Plus Stadium on February 25, 3pm.
