Hunts County Squash Club ended another great year at the club with the finals of the club championships which took place on December 1.
The event enjoyed great entry volume and diversity from across the club members, with full draws across all categories, showcasing the talent and competitive spirit within the club.
In the Squash Open category, a thrilling showdown unfolded as Mike Bull emerged victorious in a hard-fought battle against the reigning champion, Colin Griggs.
Bull secured a decisive 3/0 win, with some excellent attacking play and variation through out the match.
The Ladies Squash Open category witnessed an equally intense competition, with Sarah-Jane Hilton securing a commanding 3/0 victory over opponent Nicki Halls.
The highlight of the match was a marathon second game that went to Hilton on extra points, and left Halls with too big a deficit to recover.
In the Club Handicap Squash category, the spotlight was on new member Gray Uff, making his tournament debut. Uff secured his first title in a close contest against Danial Slade, recovering from losing the third game to see out the match 3-1 in the biggest category of the championships.
The Racketball Open featured a successful defence of the title by Rob Dadds, who secured a convincing 3/0 win over Colin Griggs. Meanwhile, in the Racketball Doubles, Colin Griggs and Sean Brodrick achieved a historic feat by becoming the first pair to dethrone Steve Daniels and John Williams, who had maintained a stronghold on the title since its inception.
The Squash Doubles always draws in a big crowd with superb rallies and skill in the quick-fire chaos that doubles on a singles court can produce. This year was no exception as Mike Bull and Matt Beaton secured a hard-fought 2/1 victory, preventing a ‘Doubles Double’ for Griggs and Brodrick.
In the Squash O45 category, John Williams claimed the Vets title by defeating Chairman Sean Brodrick with a 3/1 score line, demonstrating experience and skill in this seasoned category.
