On a wild evening of weather, St Neots eased through to their first Senior Cup Final for five seasons where their opponents will be St Ives Town who won their semi-final tie across the town at Eynesbury Rovers.

Two second half goals, including one from debutante striker Michael Amaeshike, saw them safely through as they recorded their third victory this season over visiting Godmanchester Rovers.

Amaeshike was one of three team changes taking the place of Rhys Thorpe who was cup-tied. The two other line-up changers saw the return to the side of Magloire Muyembe and Josh Brown at the expense of Christian Tavernier and on loan defender Robbie Parker.

The first half saw St Neots playing into the wind which they seemed to have problems in combating.

The visitors failed to take any advantage the conditions offered, and the result was an opening half hour of midfield exchanges with limited goal-mouth action at either end with the only serious effort on goal a shot by the lively Harvey Williams that was just too high.

However, the pattern of the game changed after Ben Tait had curled a shot just wide for the visiting side in the 34th minute.

St Neots responded positively with an opening goal three minutes later as a slick three-man move saw James Hatch register his thirteenth goal of the season after clever play by Michael Amaeshike and Jordan Brown.

Just sixty seconds later the home side should have extended their lead when Jordan Brown was played clear of the visiting defence. but he shot disappointingly over the crossbar with only the keeper to beat.

The second half saw St Neots exploiting the conditions to their advantage. An early effort by Hatch was well saved by visiting keeper Ben Newton and then after 53 minutes a mistake by the visiting keeper handed Michael Amaeshike a debut goal to make it 2-0.

Thw visitors regrouped but then Dean Dummett saw a fierce effort deflected for a corner. Then after 73 minutes the outcome was effectively decided as Jordan Brown twice went around the visiting keeper to net from an acute angle.

The visitors’ best effort in reply came from Mani Gbejuade who brought a full length save from home keeper James Goff after 78 minutes. After that only a series of substitutions punctuated the remainder of the match as St Neots strolled to a comfortable victory.
