Huntingdon Piranhas Swimming Club got off to a great start in the first round of 2024 Junior Fenland League Gala.
On March 9, the club hosted Round 1 of the Junior Fenland League (JFL) Gala at One Leisure.
The JFL is a competition for younger swimmers held against other clubs from the Fenland area, including Ely, St Neots, St Ives, Wisbech, Bottisham, Peterborough, Mildenhall, Thetford, West Norfolk, March and Huntingdon. There are several rounds swum between March and July, with the finals being held during September.
This was the first time some of the younger swimmers had represented Huntingdon at the gala but they were not daunted by the event and showcased their skills brilliantly! Well done to Shirang, Mollie, James S, Annie and Immy.
All swimmers did their best and showed great respect for the sport and for each other. Competitive spirit was shown and fun was had by all involved, with Huntingdon ending the night in second place (just behind Wisbech).
From the 44 races the team achieved 36 personal best times, with six first place finishes: Taylor (50FR and 50BR), Felicity (50BR), Arthur (50BK), Immy (50BK) and Anna (50BK) and 12 second place finishes: Taylor (100IM), Felicity (50FL), Arthur (50FL), Immy (50FR), Anna (50FL), Annie (50BR), Barnaby (100IM), Reizelle (50BK), Jacob (50BR), Josh H (50FL and 50BK), Izzy (50FL). The night was completed for the team with second place in the 8x50m squadron relay (Arthur, Izzy, Josh H, Kara, Nathan, Anna, Isaac, Reizelle).
