First Team Match Report: April 10 - (UCL Premier Division South) Easington Sports 3 - Eynesbury Rovers 2, writes Graham Mills.
Eynesbury Rovers made the long midweek trip to Banbury, in Oxfordshire, on April 10, safe in the knowledge that their position in the Premier Division was secure following Desborough Town’s 3-0 home defeat and subsequent relegation the night before.
After Marcel Rzeszutek fired narrowly wide from the edge of the box in the second minute, Easington took a ninth minute lead. James Watts set up Leam Howards and with just Caleb Chandler to beat in the Eynesbury goal he fired home.
After just 15 minutes, Rovers lost Oliver Lee to injury and he was replaced with Owen Dixon but they soon found themselves 2-0 down.
In the 19th minute Ollie Rose sent in a low cross from the right and Howards had the simple chance to tap in his second. However, just three minutes later Rovers pulled a goal back. Dylan Surace’s shot was pushed out by home keeper Joe White but it was straight at Fraelias Mienambolo who guided the ball into an unguarded net for his second goal in four games.
In the 35th minute, Easington restored their two-goal advantage following a throw in which led to Joe Eyre scoring.
Rovers thought they had a goal back when an Owen Dixon cross was netted but Dixon had been flagged offside. Later in the half Surace saw White save his shot before Declan Rogers set up Chris Khoo with a delightful back heel but he was also denied by White.
Rovers’ boss, Darren Fairbrass made three changes at the break bringing on Brady Baffour, Charlee Yearwood and Adrian O’Hara for Dylan Surace, Chris Khoo and Marcel Rzeszutek.
This made a difference as Eynesbury posed a threat going forward and limited the hosts to fewer opportunities.
After Josh Wynne headed wide at the back post for Sports Dixon took a free kick for Rovers but it hit the defensive wall.
However, just before the hour mark Dixon struck his eighth goal of the season to make it 2-3. The closest they came to equalising was a shot five minutes into stoppage time that was tipped over the bar by White.
Next up is the final match of the season at home to Rugby Borough on Saturday April 13, kick-off 3pm.
