On a sun drenched May evening it was the clash of the Hunts A U13 League titans over at St Ives One Leisure.
First and second place went head-to-head, St Ives White Sox U13 v Buckden Hawks U13 respectively going for it.
A Rangers win and the league is theirs, Buckden draw or win and it goes down to the final game of the season playing each other once again the following week.
Buckden started well with quite a few set pieces and corners going wide or just over.
Soon, St Ives got into their rhythm, and it was only a matter of time before the league’s top scorer Nana Prempeh slotted in the corner from 10 yards out.
After half time, it was Prempeh again squeezing one under the keeper from close in.
Chance after chance went begging for St Ives before Buckden got one of their own, coming back into it with five minutes to go with a near post scramble from Joel Curtis.
It was not enough with Rangers seeing the game out winning 2-1 and the league.
From being runners up last year this was sweet satisfaction to go one better for Rangers.
We will be trying our luck next season in the Cambs league for a change of teams never faced and destinations never been.
