Huntingdon Boat Club hosted the Huntingdon Regatta on July 7 - an event which has not been held since 1989, writes Sarah Adair.
There was a lot of hard work from all involved to get this event up and running and it was a great success with 18 clubs competing and a total of 91 races.
Huntingdon entered 18 crews and came away with 11 wins, one being a composite crew with Peterborough in open J18 double sculls.
Wins came from Evie Ray and Isabella Dovey in the womens' J16 double scull against St Ives. Jack Bennett got through his semi final to go on and win against Newark in the final of J15 band 2 single sculls.
Bennett also teamed up with Tom Hancock, Will Manchett and Ollie Burgess to win J15 coxed quads with Isabella Dovey coxing. James Johnson-Keay won the J13 single sculls event against Peterborough.
Louise Hinkley, Evie Andrews, Rebecca Howard and Holly Seabrook won women’s coxless quads.
Alice Ray, Iain Rickerby, Mark Smith and Louise Bocking won the mixed coxless quad event.
Ross O’Kane and Ethan Gold won J17 band 2 double sculls against Lincoln Rowing Club. Gold also competed with Daniel Grant, Edward Adams and Toby Ray in a coxless quad to win against Newark Rowing Club.
Grant competed with Noah Scott-Donkin to win J16 double sculls. The J18 composite double sculls was won by Toby Ray and Nick Bosma from Peterborough.
Huntingdon teamed up with St Ives and Spitfire Rowing Club to win the open coxed eights, Huntingdon rowers were Toby Ray, Edward Adams, Mark Smith, Joe Hardman, Ollie Shepherd (cox), Gary Gilbey (St.Ives), Mark Latymer, Manuel Marques, Thomas Hurst from Spitfire.
The eights race was sponsored by Sandra and Edward Adams in memory of husband/dad Graham Adams, who sadly passed away at the beginning of the year.
Graham was a HBC member and rower for 57 years. Graham had many jobs at the club over the years including treasurer, chairman, captain and vice- captain.
Also rowing on the day was Joe Manchett in open single sculls and open double sculls with Logan Ives.
Charlie Eastcoe competed with James Johnson-Keay in J14 double sculls. Kate Manchett, Imelda Pigg, Angie Tabb, Rachel Starling, Louise Hinckley, Louise Bocking, Evie Andrews, Holly Seabrook made it to the final of women’s eights.
Ollie Shepherd and Rebecca Howard competed in mixed double sculls, Toby Ray also raced in mixed double sculls with Anouk Bosma from Peterborough.
