On a sunny Saturday at the end of June the St Neots Rowing Club juniors took to the Peterborough rowing course. For some juniors they were returning to familiar soil, for others it was their first race.

The day started with a strong performance from Josh and Alex in the junior 15 double sculls, earning themselves a place in the C final later in the day amongst a competitive field.

This was followed by solid performances from Harry and Molly in their junior 13 and junior 15 singles respectively, with Harry winning his heat and narrowly missing out on a place in the A final.

Harry eventually came out the clear winner in his B final, with a seven second advantage over the rest of the field.

Turning to the afternoon races, having completed his day of racing in the morning, Harry steered the junior 15 coxed quad consisting of Miriam, Norah, Tilly and Layla to a well deserved placed in the C final.

Three races then followed in quick succession, with Molly and Millie fighting hard in their new combination in the junior 15 double sculls, finishing in the top 10.

Ethan and Josh then followed in the junior 15 single sculls, with Ethan securing a place in the C final and Josh putting in a strong showing in his first ever race in a single sculls, pushing the more experienced scullers right to the line and being within a couple of seconds of securing a place in the finals.

The final time trial came from Alex, also in the junior 15 single sculls. Unfortunately a timing issue meant Alex’s time trail had to be re-rowed. Having already raced three times that day, Alex put in one final push, putting in a strong showing.

The final races of the day were the three C finals, with the girls junior 15 coxed quad improving on their time from the heat. Both Ethan in the single scull and Molly and Millie in the double scull put in impressive showings in their finals.

The club's next race is at our home Regatta on July 27/28. Spectators are more than welcome to come and watch.
