Eynesbury Rovers (first team) Isuzu FA Vase qualifying round against Lakenheath on Saturday August 24.
Michael King scored against his former club to secure a 2-0 win and earn Rovers a trip to Great Yarmouth Town in the next round.
Victor Osobu got the tie underway for Eynesbury with a tenth minute strike but the half was marred by injuries to Jamal Batchilly for the hosts, who was replaced by Ryan Lewis in the 31 minute and just 60 seconds later Lakenheath’s Luke Bailey had to leave the field and Jake Stephenson took his place.
However, the worst injury befell the visitor’s Taylor Hastings, who went down on the stroke of half time with a suspected broken leg. This caused a 30-minute delay to the start of the second half.
Three minutes into the game, Lakenheath had the first attempt at goal but Tom Debenham’s header looped onto the roof of the net.
After Batchilly fired over from the edge of the box for Rovers they took the lead when Marcel Rseszutek slotted a pass through to Osobu who fired low past the keeper for his fifth goal of the season.
Nine minutes later, Rzeszutek was unfortunate to see his shot come back off the crossbar. Batchilly returned the ball to him but his second shot went over the top. Further chances came Rovers way but Max Kimpton was wide with his low shot across goal and Mienabolo was denied by the keeper after Osobu had played him in.
In the 56th minute, after Ross Bailey picked up a yellow card for a foul on Osobu, Michael King took the free kick on the left flank 10 yards in from the touchline, and his shot sneaked in at the near post for his second goal of the season.
From this point on Eynesbury knocked the ball about with confidence and gave Jake Coxall his debut, coming on for Mienambolo.
Final Score: Eynesbury Rovers 2- Lakenheath 0.
