St Neots Rugby Club's Development Side secured an impressive victory in their third league game of the season on Saturday, triumphing 52-20 away at Kempston Rugby Club.
St Neots played fast, expansive rugby on their way to a commanding win. Kempston started as the stronger of the two teams, showing their intent with powerful runs from their forward pack.
Early pressure from Kempston resulted in a penalty due to ill-discipline from St Neots. However, St Neots responded well with a smooth interplay between forwards and backs, culminating in Thomas Davies-Parratt powering through from 25 yards.
With confidence high, St Neots continued to stretch Kempston's defence, securing quick ball at the breakdown. Their backline capitalised on this, executing an excellent strike move that saw Gabriel Smith race clear from the halfway line to score an impressive try on his St Neots debut.
St Neots maintained their attacking dominance throughout the first half. The forwards were particularly strong, with powerful runs from James Colnet, Aden Fry, and Daltrey Whyte. The backs also showcased their skills, resulting in two classy tries from Rory Dingemans, as well as scores from Dean Terreblanche and Gabriel Smith.
Kempston rallied towards the end of the first half, using their large forward pack to patiently work their way to a try. St Neots then suffered a yellow card for repeated high tackles, ending the half with a score of 38-15.
The second half began much like the first, with Kempston imposing their game on the St Neots forwards. However, patient and resilient defence from St Neots kept Kempston at bay.
On the attack, St Neots remained dangerous, continuing to stretch the Kempston defence. After missing several golden opportunities to score, St Neots eventually sealed the game with well-executed tries from Dean Terreblanche and Jack Webb. Kempston, to their credit, played with great heart until the final whistle, earning a well-worked consolation try in the corner.
There were several standout performances for St Neots, including impressive debuts from Dominic Radley and Gabriel Smith. The Man of the Match was Aden Fry, who delivered an outstanding all-round performance in both attack and defence.
