Eynesbury Roves v ON Chenecks (United Counties League Premier Division South) on Saturday, October 26 report by Graham Mills.
Eynesbury Rovers made only one change from the side that snatched a late equaliser at Histon the previous Tuesday; Jamal Batchilly coming in for Jordan Stevenson.
There were few chances for either side during the game with Rovers restricted to three long range shots in the first half, none of which troubled Bradley Lashley in the ON Chenecks’ goal.
The newly promoted visitors had made a good start at the higher level and were sat in fifth place. They looked dangerous on the break with Lewis Irwin looking at threat. Their first chance came when Tyrun Primus set up Raymond Poku in the box and just when it looked like the striker was going to score Oliver Brookes made a timely intervention to concede a corner kick.
After Irwin's miscued hit shot way off target after a Chenecks break he was presented with an opportunity in the 22nd minute when Rovers defence failed to clear their lines and he slammed the ball home inside the penalty area.
Two minutes later Primus set up Irwin again but he turned and fired wide. The striker had another chance from a counter attack but his first shot was parried by Sam Roach and when the ball came back to him his second effort was cleared off the line by a Rovers defender. The danger was still not cleared and from a cross into the box his header was held by Roach.
Eynesbury made a bright start to the second half as a Nathan Mullings cross from the left was headed over by Josh Howard-Dobson and later, from a Fulianty cross, Howard-Dobson saw his header come off the head of a defender and behind for a corner. From that flag kick the ball was cleared to the edge of the penalty area where Michael King drove a low shot wide of goal.
Rovers brought on Jake Coxall for Howard-Dobson on the hour mark and teenager Oskar Ciach replaced Batchilly with 15 minutes to go but Rovers could not find a break through. Mullings had a shot blocked and in stoppage time a Ciach shot was held by the goalkeeper.
Chenecks scored their second goal in the 78th minute when Luke Andrews headed home from a corner kick and there was no way back for Rovers.
Final Score: Eynesbury Rovers 0 - ON Chenecks - 2
Next up for Eynesbury is a Hunts Senior Cup quarter final October 29 when they host Godmanchester Rovers, kick-off is 7.45pm.
