Eynesbury Rovers: First team match report Hinchingbrooke Cup First Round on November 5, by Graham Mills.
Eynesbury Rovers progressed to the quarter-final of the Hinchingbrooke Cup, where they will travel to either Eaton Socon or Baldock Town, with a 9-0 romp against Eastern Counties League First Division North side FC Parson Drove.
It was the first time that Eynesbury had scored nine goals in one match since their 9-2 success at Biggleswade United in the Spartan South Midlands League back on September 14, 2021 when they won 9-2.
It was also their largest winning margin since their club record 12-0 win over Harrowby United in a UCL fixture on March 25, 2017.
Furthermore they set a Hinchingbrooke Cup all-time record of being the only team to have won by this margin twice as they had previously defeated Potton United by the same score line during the 2012/13 season.
The rout started in the fifth minute after Leon Fulianty’s drive was tipped onto the cross bar and behind by teenage goalkeeper Sam Buckland. From the flag kick Michael King headed home his third goal of the season, all scored in cup competitions.
Rovers’ second came in the tenth minute when Michael King picked out Victor Osobu in the penalty area and he scored from a central position.
Further chances fell Eynesbury’s way and Buckland twice denied Nathan Mullings before Osobu lobbed the ‘keeper from 25 yards to make it 3-0 in the 38th minute.
Two minutes before the break Osobu became the provider as he teed up Reece King to score his first goal for the club, guiding a low shot into the far corner of the goal.
Osobu completed his hat-trick four minutes into the second half when he fired home following an excellent cross field pass by Jonny Hall and Mullings made it 6-0 with a low shot four minutes later.
Twenty minutes before time, Fulianty crossed for Axel Owusu to side-foot home from close range and three minutes later Osobu claimed his fourth goal after Seb Adamczyk had passed back to the keeper unaware of Victor’s presence and he duly made it 8-0.
The rout was completed in the 83rd minute when Ryan Lewis netted from an Osobu pass.
Next up for Rovers is a trip to Leicester Nirvana in a UCL fixture on Saturday, November 9, kick-off 3pm.
