Foot ball Report (Thurlow Nunn Youth League U-18s) St Neots Town 6 Saffron Walden 4.
Two goals from the visitors in the final three minutes of this match gave the final score line a misleading view of a fairly comfortable victory for the home side.
The visitors scored to level at 1-1 after half an hour but after that point St Neots dominated and never looked like losing. The visiting side with only one victory in six matches is clearly young and inexperienced, but they never gave up trying as their haul of two very late goals indicate.
St Neots struggled to find an early rhythm but went ahead in their first significant attack after nine minutes when Brandon Jessup took advantage of hesitant defending.
After the visiting side had seen an effort rebound from a post five minutes later, they were rewarded with an equaliser after 27 minutes when a poor defensive clearance set up Roman Hunt who finished well.
Ten minutes before the break, St Neots regained the lead when a free kick was not cleared and Brandon Jessup pounced for his second goal. Just before half time, Harley Camfield burst through a square lying visiting defence to give his side a 3-1 advantage.
A fourth goal for the home side again from Harley Camfield gave them a three goals cushion but Will Barfwa took advantage of lax defending to make the score 4-2.
St Neots then had a commanding spell adding further goals from Brandon Jessup, the completion of his personal hat-trick, and substitute Jake Bell and that should have seen the completion of a comprehensive victory, but the plucky visitors had the last word with two goals in the last three minutes of the game from Roman Hunt and Will Barfwa.
