St Neots Hockey Club saw six of its eight teams win at the weekend to continuing a strong start to the 2024/25 season.

The Women’s 3s began the victories with a 3-0 win over Ely City 3s. Goals came from Nicola Quincey, who scored twice, and Lizzy Bertram.

Meanwhile, the Men’s 2s secured a win against Kettering’s 3rd team, with goals from Oli Holmes, Andrew Pope, and Chris Butterworth.

The Women’s 2s, unbeaten this season, also enjoyed home success, with Sue Glover scoring both goals in a 2-1 win against Wisbech Town 2s.

The Men’s 3s, in a top-of-the-table clash against Bourne Deeping 3s, were leading 3-1 with two goals from David Martin and one from Josh Billing when the visitors, unhappy with a decision, walked off the pitch. The final score remains unconfirmed.

In Cambridge, the Men’s 4s were playing against Nomads 4s.

A hat-trick from 12-year-old Joe Bertram marked their first win of the season, with goals from Chris Bates, Adam Gardner, and Tim Wood, finishing the match 6-0.

The Women’s 4s also enjoyed a home win against Huntingdon and Northstowe 2s, with goals from Sue Glover, Giorgia Benbow, and Fiona Humphrey, leading to a 3-0 victory.

The day was less successful for the club’s two first teams.

The Women’s 1s lost 2-0 to Cambridge University 2s.

The Men’s 1s were beaten 8-0 away by March Town 1s.

After the match, nine squad members donned their best smiles for a team photo, showing their annual support for the Movember charity.

Eleven club members are growing moustaches throughout November to fundraise for the charity, which raises awareness of men’s health issues.
